This All Purpose Pizza Dough is a God-send. I discovered this recipe when i was reading through a baking book. And ever since then, i have been using this all purpose pizza dough to make all sorts of breads ranging from pizza to garlic knots. I am sure all of us love a slice of pizza or two. But eating pizzas out in India is not only an expensive affair but also a scary one. For God knows what has been thrown into that pizza. So the next best bet that we have is baking our own pizza. While many people think making a pizza is a difficult task or rather a tedious one, i must tell you that its not so. Once you get the hang of the yeast and the kneading process, you will see for yourself that not only eating pizza is fun but making it is fun too.
all purpose pizza doughWhile my earlier pizza dough calls for resting the dough for a  long period of time, this all purpose pizza dough is a quick one which is also vegan. You can replace half of the flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier version but the crust may be a little dense. This all purpose pizza dough works well for garlic bread sticks and the like too. Now let us check how to make this all purpose pizza dough step by step.

Step By Step Instructions on How To Make All Purpose Pizza Dough

In a mixing bowl combine sugar, yeast and water. Give a good stir and let stand until frothy. Takes anywhere between 10 and 20 mins. I used a measuring jar for this for convenience sake.

Now in another large mixing bowl place flour and salt and whisk thoroughly

Make a well in the center of this flour mix and add 3 tbsp oil and yeast mixture.

Combine to make a shaggy mass of dough. I couldnt take pics of this step as my hands were messy.
Turn the dough out onto a floured work space and knead gently until smooth and elastic.

If you find the dough too sticky sprinkle a little more flour but not more than 3 tbsp.
Now  use the remaining oil to grease  another bowl which can accommodate the doubled dough and place the kneaded dough in it
Cover with a cling wrap and let rise till double in volume.

You may also add the yeast directly to the dough along with the salt and sugar without mixing it in water and letting it froth
I recommend this only if you are sure the yeast s alive.
Once the dough doubles divide into two.

Shape into a circle and gently roll to a thick disc of nine inches.
Preheat oven to 220 c.
Transfer the rolled dough onto a  greased baking stone or pizza tray
Gently press down to spread the dough evenly all over.
Make dents with a fork and bake in the preheated oven for 5 mins.
Once done you can use it to make pizza straight away or freeze for later.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour 2 c approx 225 g when weighed
  • Instant yeast 1.5 tsp or Active dry yeast 2 tsp
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Olive oil 3 tbsp+ 1 tbsp
  • Warm water 3/4 c
